Swim Season Officially Over

Do I look "official"? This year I volunteered to be an "official" official for any swim meet held at our rec center. I knew I'd be at Adam's swim meets, so... I am in the dead center of the picture in my official's outfit of white shirt and navy pants, conscientiously watching the toes and fingers of the relay swimmers. It was pretty cool to be right in the thick of things, splashed from head to foot. The only regret is that I wasn't available to watch every second of Adam's races and take photos -- which is my favorite thing to do. Luckily I have a wonderful friend who is a professional photographer who also had a daughter swimming who specially took pictures of Adam for me. I have a few on this entry of Adam, but I think I will find more of him in the water soon. (I have hundreds to sort through!) Even though I was exhausted after most of the meets, it was thrilling to watch the kids beat their personal best times, break region records and, most thrilling of all, to watch Viewmont High School walk off with both the girls and boys Region 1 championship trophies. Wow! The energy in the pool area was out of this world!
This is Adam mentally preparing for a race right before he takes to the blocks. I have been so proud of his progress this year. On his last race he knocked off a 1/2 a second off his 50yd freestyle race. The week prior he had taken off an addl 2 seconds. It was so fun to see him finish that race, immediately look up at the scoreboard to note his time, than break out in a tremendous whoop of joy, while thrusting a victory fist in the air! Proud, proud Mom. The last picture really encapsulates a swimmer's life.

Bet that was a blast to be there on the edge of the pool feeling the nervousness mixed with excitement of the swimmers. Probably felt like you were in high school again. What a neat opportunity!
